Bitcoin - The Currency of the Internet
A community dedicated to Bitcoin, the currency of the Internet. Bitcoin is a distributed, worldwide, decentralized digital money. Bitcoins are issued and managed without any central authority whatsoever: there is no government, company, or bank in charge of Bitcoin. You might be interested in Bitcoin if you like cryptography, distributed peer-to-peer systems, or economics. A large percentage of Bitcoin enthusiasts are libertarians, though people of all political philosophies are welcome.

How to prepare for possible future bitcoin career opportunities?
With the ever increasing investment and growth of Bitcoin related development, I feel the career opportunities are going to be increasingly growing in this sector. For those that might be interested in Bitcoin related careers, what skills do you feel would most benefit working in this industry? If coding/programming, what languages? What type of education or certification (ex: CFA)? What type of knowledge of Bitcoin or cryptocurrencies in general would be expected? . . ...................................................................... . . EDIT: Thanks for all the comments and suggestions thus far! Many replies thus far are related to coding and possibly creating applications, working directly with the bitcoin code and protocol, with a pretty heavy comp sci perspective. Any additional replies: possibly comment more on the support jobs. I've seen things like marketing, business development, product control/development mentioned. I'm also thinking about analyzing the blockchain data if possible. I'm not sure what type of analysis could be derived from it. But what skills would be needed to grab data from the block chain and then what would be the best way to perform analytics on it? As the blockchain grows in size, would the same skills and analysis techniques that one could use now still be appropriate?
What are some Bitcoin career/hobby ideas we can start?
I've been following Bitcoin/cryptocurrencies for a while now and was wondering what kind of potential career paths or extra hobbies we can take on? Some I can think of are below, but wanted to hear your ideas too!
Day trading bitcoins (not a smart idea)
Building mining rigs for yourself
Build mining rigs and sell package to others
Consulting business for a mining farm (put together everything needed to get started in owning one at home or other locations, and then sell that service)
Make websites/apps for charts, news, or a service of some kind
[uncensored-r/Bitcoin] Career as a programmer in crypto

Hello there, I'm a first year CS student. In the past year I started to become interested in the cryptocurrency and I want to learn more about this subject. But I need to study a lot by myself because I don't think I have any courses that relate to crypto... Can someone please recommend me about which programming language to learn, or maybe a name of a course that I should take. Any comment will help! Thanks

Discussion Topic Suggestion - Bitcoin Careers & Jobs
I was hoping that you all would be open to discussing career and job opportunities that will benefit the most from the Bitcoin and digital currency boom in the coming years. Personally, I'm a journalist that was about to go into teaching, but after buying and using some bitcoins I've become fascinated with the entire idea and everything that goes along with it. I'm at a cross roads career wise, and would honestly love to jump headlong into a field or area that would see the benefits and be involved in the development of this new technology. My political views are also anarcho-cap leaning, so I want to see be involved for political reasons as well. Thanks, and I appreciate all the work you all put into the show. I always learn a lot listening to the episodes, and they are honestly the highlight of my day, most of the time.
My Bitcoin Forum Resume / Business BBS in Finance from UALR 2005, after 6 years I was disgusted with finance world, and am teaching / volunteering. Bitcoin has inspired me to take the GMAT and enroll in a MBA program which I am currently preparing for. A Brief Career Background starting most recently includes: Sustainable Agriculture and Commerce Volunteer, Construction Vocation Instructor, Occupy Wall Street Volunteer, CRM, VOIP software, Sales and Management, Integrator, Broker, Agriculture Manager / BeeKeeper and the bees kept me! The chance we all have with Bitcoin to change the world for the better has allowed me to see a light at the end of the tunnel for our world, as ultimately economics rules peoples day to day requirements, once they have developed the basics of modern living. 3 + billion people don't even have the basic modern improvements of balanced diet, clean water, and equality. With the right motivations and luck we can make a huge impact on so much of whats wrong in our world. If this is a mutual feeling regarding Bitcoin's future, I want to work with yall to cause it! I have a question related to bitcoin in order to use it every day (u know in the future). I see that you guys talk about segwit or lightning network, but how all this stuff work to avoid or deal with the 10 min time limit to write each block? Just curiosity, I'm starting to learn bitcoin in a more technical way, and I've bought 'the bitcoin standard' and 'mastering bitcoin'. Any other recommendation ? Or how could someone get into jobs related with it? I mean someone with a backend or devops background (mine) ? I see that there is a learning path in coursera.
